A Clifton Park motorcyclist was killed Friday when he crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a van in an “S-curve” on the south side of Tongue Mountain on Route 9N, about 1.5 miles north of Padanarum Road, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Two others from Albany were injured as they rode into the debris field on Route 9N. The Warren County Sheriff's Office says the crash occurred at 1:20 Friday afternoon when John Avellino, 55, from Clifton Park was riding his 2007 Yamaha 1300 motorcycle and hit a 2005 GMC Savanna work van. He had gotten separated from the group he was riding with and a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle was also trailing and hit debris and crashed.
That driver, Keith VanVeghten, 57, and his passenger Mary Hoyle, 51, both from Albany, were treated at Glens Falls Hospital, authorities said.
Avellino was pronounced dead at the scene. The van’s driver, Stephen A. Frank, 37, of Lake George was not injured. There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash, according to investigators. No tickets have been issued.
