A Schenectady man is charged after a stabbing and fire on Michigan Avenue, police said.

Firefighters found the bleeding 49-year old woman after they were called to the home at 322 Michigan Avenue on Monday. Authorities say Campbell hit the woman in the head with what they call "a dangerous instrument” – then started the fire in the attic.

The woman's 11-year-old son was home at the time.

Everett Campbell, who turns 51 on August 29, is charged with Arson (2nd Degree, Class-B Felony), Assault (1st Degree, Class-B Felony) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class-A Misdemeanor). Campbell was taken into custody shortly after the incident and  is currently being held in Schenectady City lock-up awaiting arraignment.
