Emergency medical care set to return to northern Berkshire County, Massachusetts next week.

Berkshire Medical Center will open a 24-7 Satellite Emergency Facility at noon on Monday in the former ER of the North Adams Regional Hospital, which closed earlier this year.

BMC spokesman Mike Leary says it will be able to handle any emergency situation, but says there is one crucial difference with an emergency department - there is not a full hospital attached in which patients can be admitted.  That means any severely injured or extremely ill patients will have to be transferred to the most appropriate hospital for further care.

Meanwhile, BMC is continuing to work with the bankruptcy court on the acquisition of the forrmer North Adams hospital.
