The state labor department says the state’s unemployment rate fell two-tenths of a percentage point in April to 6.7 percent -- the lowest level since December 2008.

The state’s private sector added 2,500 jobs - the 17th consecutive monthly gain.

The unemployment rate outside New York City dropped to 5.8 percent. Over the past year, the Rochester area has gained 2,000 private sector jobs.

The national average is 6.3 percent.
