It was no secret that Camila Cabello made several attempts to jumpstart her solo career during her time in Fifth Harmony, and one of those efforts apparently included a stab at The Chainsmokers' "Closer."

On Monday (March 20), a rumored 10-second snippet of Cabello's demo for the EDM pair's mega-smash, "Closer," surfaced and features the former 5H bandmate on the hook instead of Halsey. "Closer" was released on July 29, 2016, which means that the budding star would have likely recorded her portion sometime around the release of her and her former bandmate's sophomore effort, 7/27

Word on the street is the singer had to opt out from the collab once promotional commitments for the song were targeted because of the "7/27 Tour" and Halsey stepped back into the picture after writing the track for the acts. Later that year, Camila and The Chainsmokers exchanged several messages on Twitter, but little did we know that their tweets had much more context than we interpreted. In the end, it appears as Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall probably went with the right vocalist for the mid-tempo hit.

Meanwhile, Cabello appears on the newest cover of Fault magazine and told the outlet that fans can expect to hear her solo music before the summer. "I hope to release my first few songs before summer and then go from there and hopefully an album in the Fall," she revealed. "They are going to feel who I am. They are going to get a chunk of my heart, my experiences, my fantasies and everything in between."
