My Father's Day Surprise

Father's Day for me this year was pretty amazing. Although I didn't get to spend the whole day with my 2 daughters, the time we had together was spectacular.

I had to wake them up since they both love to sleep but we had plans to go to breakfast. Once we were all up and getting ready to go my youngest walks over to my oldest and whispers in her ear. I got the typical "did you hear what I said" which I replied no because I didn't hear a thing.

The 3 of us hopped in the car and headed to the Colonie Diner. Let's see if I can remember what we all ordered - I got the Country Style breakfast, my youngest got Belgian Waffles with ice cream and whipped cream, and a side of corned beef hash - My oldest got French Toast with strawberries and sausage.

Breakfast was delicious as usual. Ok, so this is where the surprise comes in, as the check gets to the table my youngest grabs it out of my hand, looks at me and says "We got this Daddy! It's Father's Day and you shouldn't have to pay for breakfast today"

My eyes filled up with pride and surprise. I had NO idea that they were planning on paying! I can't even put into words the way I felt after that. As I type this I still get teary eyed. I guess just knowing that my girls love me so much and wanted to do something nice for me that I wasn't expecting makes me proud.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I think my girls don't love me or that they don't think of me on Father's Day. I usually get a card and a hug, a Happy Father's Day and that's it (Which is enough for me). So the fact that they bought me breakfast and surprised me with it means that much more to me. Plus the fact that they're 10 and 15 and thought enough to do something like this for me makes my heart melt.

That's really all I needed for Father's Day 2018. It's nice to know that I must be doing something right with my girls.
