The statewide ban on single use plastic bags, like you get at the supermarket, goes into effect in March. In fact, if you even want a paper bag in which to place your grocery items, it will cost you 5 cents per bag in Albany County. The legislature voted to enact the 5 cent fee on Wednesday. Three of the five cents would go toward the state Environmental Protection Fund, two cents goes to the county.
