Nationally, we had Walter Kronkite, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, and Ted Koppel. Here in Albany, our most well known and trusted name in news for decades was Ed Dague. He was a staple on local television news stations like WRGB (CBS 6) and most recently on WNYT (NewsChannel 13) until his retirement in 2003.
Following his retirement, Dague wrote a book called '6 & 11 A Television News Anchor's Story' where he wrote in detail about his long broadcasting career.
Dague was 76.
I remember this particular broadcast from when I was a kid, luckily somebody uploaded it to YouTube. Meteorologist Bob Kovachick called in sick at the last minute and nobody was available to fill-in for weather on such short notice. So, Ed Dague stepped out of the anchor chair and in front of the weather screen for some of the funniest local news footage ever.
