I'm sure you've seen this all over the internet this morning. Last night at The Oscars, Will Smith walked up on stage and slapped Chris Rock in the face after Chris made a joke about Wills' wife Jada. If you've watched any of the clips, you'll see Will laughing at the joke at first but obviously, something happened right after that and will got up, walked up on stage and smacked Chris. You can see Chris standing there in shock, he makes a comment about the smack and then will chimes back in with "keep my wife's name, out your f***ing mouth".
There has been a ton of speculation about the slap. Was it real? Was it staged? In my personal opinion, the slap was real. Oh and by the way, to the sites that have published the story that say that Will "punched" Chris, you're so far off base that it's comical. It was clearly a slap and not a punch. Anyway, back to what I was saying. Yes, I think it was real. The awkward moments after the event took place were way too real. Chris was beside himself and you can see him look off stage to see if he should continue presenting the next award. Not to mention that if you see the anger on Wills' face after, even though Will is a great actor, that was real anger.
I'm not sure why Will laughed initially at the joke and then got so heated that he felt the need to get up, interrupt the show, and slap Chris but it happened. Maybe Jada said something to Will after the joke? If you see the look on Jada's face after Chris said what he said, she was CLEARLY not happy. She was shooting a laser beam look at Rock. So, I'm guessing she either said something to Will or she gave him that same look and Will felt that he needed to do what he did.
The most gangster moment of the whole thing is the fact that Chris Rock never once touched his face after getting smacked. What would've been better is if Rock came back with a joke after he said "oh I could...." and thought better of it. I would love to know what Chris would've said.
