According to Realtor.com, millennials make up just under 13% of the population in the Capital Region. That's actually just shy of the nationwide share of 13%. Why are millennials drawn to the Albany area? A lot of it has to do with the affordability of the area. Things aren't cheap here, but they're not really all that expensive either.
The other thing that is drawing millennials to the area is the fact that there is a HUGE tech scene around here. Apparently Albany is referred to as the "Silicon Valley of The East Coast", which is news to me but sure we can go with that. Since so many young people are looking to work in the tech field, turns out Albany is a great spot to be.
On top of that, there are a bunch of specialty bars, Biergartens and coffee houses in the Downtown area that draw the millennials as well.
Maybe we can stop referring to Albany as SmAllbany now?
