On the first day of Kindergarten, Charlie went to Veeder Elementary like so many other little people do. Unfortunately this day would change the lives of her and her family's forever. Charlie went home that day with a fever and was very fatigued. Although the fever went away the following morning it returned later that day. The following day Charlie complained that her bones ached and that her belly hurt as well.
After seeing her pediatrician and having several other appointments and blood work done, Charlie was admitted to Albany Med and diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. That's a childhood cancer that impacts the sympathetic nervous system.
Sharing that whole story is extremely difficult as a parent. I can't imagine what the family is going through and I won't even pretend that I can understand.
Now for the positive part of this story. A HUGE amount of students from the South Colonie school district recently sent her a video to hopefully lift her spirits. This is why I am beyond proud to be a member of the South Colonie community!
