Mariano Rivera did something yesterday that nobody in the history of baseball has ever done. He received 100% of the votes to get into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Am I surprised? No, not even a little bit. As a Yankees fan I had a pretty good feeling about the results of this years vote.
What I am surprised by is that he is the 1st person to ever get 100% of the votes. With the countless legends that have been inducted into the HOF, how did nobody before him get this? Names like Mickey Mantle or Lou Gehrig. Or Ted Williams. Ken Griffey Jr. Babe Ruth. None of these guys did what Mariano did yesterday. It's really hard to believe.
Either way, Mo did it and it's just another accomplishment for an amazing pitcher and, even better, person. Mariano was well respected by everyone in baseball and that speaks volumes. He was so dominate at his position that even Red Sox fans have said that they are happy for him. Maybe not all Sox fans but the ones that I've talked to, anyway.
I tip my cap to Mariano and congratulate him on doing something that nobody has ever done before. It's an amazing feat for anyone to accomplish but even better, he did it in Pinstripes.
Check out the moment that Mo found out that, not only did he get into Cooperstown, but that he was a unanimous decision.
