The Jussie Smollett Case - My Take On It

Earlier today Jussie Smollett turned himself into Chicago Police and is now facing felony charges for disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false report. We also learned the reasoning behind the alleged "staged attack". Eddie Johnson, the Superintendent of Police, said in a press conference that Jussie was "dissatisfied with his salary"

So all of this was because he wasn't happy with what he was getting paid on Empire? Now, I'm not jumping to conclusions on anything and I realize that this is all still under investigation. I presume innocence until proven guilty, in ALL cases.

IF these allegations turn out to be true, this is an absolute tragedy. To think that someone would stage a hate crime just to gain attention is disgusting. This does nothing but hurt future victims from coming forward. It also makes it much harder for victims to get anyone to believe that they were attacked. I've seen a couple cases now that people were making up stories about hate crimes. Why? Where does anything like this get you?

I recognize that there is a great divide in this country and that we are still dealing with major racism issues. Situations like this one do now and will not make things better, for anyone. Exploiting race issues for your own personal gain not only makes you extremely selfish but it also makes the gap between both sides even bigger.

To me, it's sad that someone would bring themselves to such a low level for their own benefit.

Anyway, now we wait and see how this all plays out in the justice system but honestly it's not looking great for Smollett. Remember friends, you actions have consequences. As a whole, we need to be having civil conversations about race equality but this is not how to get that done.
