Dance Competition Season Is Here

I write one of these every year before our kids take the stage for the first time of the season. This year, things are very different. We are headed off to Hartford, Ct minus one big part of the family. Next weekend we will share plenty of laughs and I'm sure tears as well. It's our first comp with out DSB and that sucks beyond words.

To our kids - We know that you have worked extremely hard this year. Getting on that stage will not be easy for many of you but you will push through and dance like only you guys can. Although I don't know all the parents at the studio, I'd like to think I speak for ALL of them when I say how proud we all are of you. For the new kids on the team - If you need ANYTHING you come find one of the Prop Dads and we will take care of you. That's how we roll! Enjoy your time with your friends at the competition. Make memories. Make new friends. Cheer your teammates on. Cheer on the kids from the other studios. Tell them how good they did when they walk off stage. Represent our studio with sportsmanship and pride.

Prop Dads - You guys are like brothers to me. If you're wondering what a Prop Dad does or is, let's just say this. We make sure the props for each dance is ready to go. We get them on and off the stage. Is that all we do? No, we do whatever needs to be done, for anyone that wears our studios colors. There are 88 kids on our dance team and I can tell you that each Prop Dad has 88 kids at that competition. Fellas, I'm looking forward to spending some fun and long days with you next weekend.

For everyone that calls WOD your "family" - Let's remember that next weekend. We are a team! We succeed as a team and we fail as a team. These competition weekends are about the kids. It's about them having a great time and making memories with their friends. It's not about trophies. It's not about ribbons, scholarships, pins or scores. Yes, those are nice BUT what's better is that your child has the courage to get up on stage and dance their heart out. They're doing what they love to do. I know that it's hard to check egos at the door, and I'm well aware of the competitor in all of us. Remember one very important fact, we succeed and we fail as a TEAM!

Personally, I am very proud of every single kid from our studio! I'm also extremely proud of Ms Danielle and how hard she's worked with and for the kids this (and every) year. I know I don't say it enough but you are a blessing to all the kids at the studio. Thank you for your time and effort every day! Thank you for being a strong role model to all of these kids. I love you! Btw, she's my girlfriend.

Alright, that's it for this year. Thanks for reading.
