The Equifax settlement has been all over the place. You've seen it on most of your Social Media sites and pretty much anywhere else you looked. Oh, you know what I'm talking about. "Claim your $125 settlement due to the data breach" stuff. Maybe you put in your claim and thought you were going to get $125. Sorry to say, you're probably not going to get that much, if you even get anything.
The FTC says that due to the amount of people that applied for the "return", your payment isn't going to be anywhere near $125. That amount would have been what you received if only 248,000 people put in claims for the money. The FTC didn't give an exact number but they said that WAY more people than that submitted claims.
If you haven't put your claim in yet, you're actually better off taking the "free credit monitoring" that they are offering. If you try to claim your "money" there's a solid chance that you're not going to get anything. It's a real "you snooze, you lose" situation. The FTC is saying that the "free credit monitoring" is actually pretty valuable so you might actually be better off taking that instead of the money.
