What Is the Right Age to Start Potty Training?

Sisanieโ€™s twins are 15 months old now and the feat of potty training has come up. Sisanie revealed on-air on Wednesday, July 31, that a friend mentioned she should start thinking about potty training twins Maxon and Aiza and sheโ€™s torn.

โ€œSomebody recently told me like, โ€˜Oh, youโ€™re probably close to potty training then!โ€™ And I was like, โ€˜What? No?!โ€™ And theyโ€™re like, โ€˜Yeah, at 18 months, you kind of just start introducing the potty.โ€™ And โ€ฆ I thought that you didnโ€™t do it until 2 1/2, maybe 3ย yearsย old?โ€ Sisanie shared. โ€œItโ€™s different for every kid โ€ฆ so my question is when is the right age to potty train?โ€

Ryan Seacrest, who doesnโ€™t have children of his own, joked that he can only compare to his dog Georgia.

โ€œI also heard if they start hiding to do their business,โ€ Sisanie continued. โ€œThen that's a sign that theyโ€™re ready. โ€ฆ [But] itโ€™s so fascinating that it would happen this early because they donโ€™t speak yet.โ€

According to experts, many children show signs of being ready for potty training between ages 18 and 24 months. However, others might not be ready until they're 3 years old. Experts add that there's no rush and even warn if you start too early, it might take longer to train your child.

โ€œI think [18 months] is a little too young,โ€ mom of two Patty Rodriguez added. โ€œBut I know parents who have started their kids as early as 12 months [too].โ€œย
