Your Kid May Be Speaking In A British Accent From Watching 'Peppa Pig'

When you find something that you kids love and will sit still for, it can feel like you've cracked the code. At home, we try not too rely on screen time, but I know as they get older and need more entertainment as I am finishing up work or trying to get dinner on the table, we might need good kid's shows!

And even if you don't have kids, you've probably heard of Peppa Pig, because it seems like EVERY kid is obsessed.

Juuuust be careful, because it turns out some kids are fully developing British accents due to watching Peppa Pig too much!

If you thought you were the only parent who noticed your toddler speaking with a bit of an accent, you are definitely not alone.

Parents are bonding on social media over the #PeppaEffect. But not all parents are alarmed by it, and it seems that most of them say it fades as the kid gets older.

Another mother shared how her 4-year-old who she is trying to teach Hindi isn't picking that up, but can speak English well because of the show!

The stories of young kids with British accents who have no other reason to have them go on and on!

But in a conversation with Romper, Roberto Rey Agudo of Darmouth College, said it's all about "exposure." Obviously young kids are developing the #PeppaEffect because of the show's popularity "with the 2- to 5-year-old crowd and it’s considered cute, whereas I don’t know what other shows have that kind of currency right now.”

My nieces used to have a slight British accent when they were young because they lived in England with my sister and brother-in-law when they were at these developmental stages! It really just has to do with the accents they hear the most - even if it's not what is being spoken around the house.

But it is HILARIOUS that it's coming from this show that kids are so obsessed with!
