Mindy Kaling Says She's Happy With The Timing of Her Becoming A Mom

Since welcoming her daughter Katherine, who she called "Kit", Mindy Kaling has been pretty tight-lipped about who the father might be, and she has avoided showing Katherine's face on social media.

Just because she's pretty private about Katherine's life, though, doesn't mean she isn't opening up about motherhood, and in her latest interview she talks all about being a single mom and how the timing of motherhood has been perfect for her.

While talking with Glamour, Mindy revealed that had she not gotten pregnant when she did, she may have put off motherhood 'indefinitely' and not on purpose.

"I always knew I wanted to be a mom, but I would have put it off and put it off. I'm happy that it happened when it did. I would have put it off indefinitely. I've seen firsthand the heartbreak of women who have waited to get pregnant [and then it doesn't happen]. I'm so grateful for having Katherine."

In a commencement speech last year, Mindy also opened up about her experience coming home from the hospital as a single mom without her own mother, who passed away in 2012.

"I remember bringing her home and being in my house with her for the first time and thinking, 'Huh.' According to movies and TV this is traditionally the time when my mother and spouse are supposed to be here, sharing this experience with me and I looked around and I had neither."

But Mindy continued, sharing that in reality, she isn't alone.

"I'm not doing it by myself. I'm surrounded by family and friends who love and support me."

But Mindy also shared in her Glamour interview that being a single mom makes her work harder now so that she is able to take more time off as Katherine gets older.

"I know at some point I will have to do less, because it's not like there's a dad at home picking up some of the slack. I think that's another reason I work so hard — because I know that when she gets a little bit older, I want to be able to take off more time to spend with her."

Totally understand that feeling, even though I'm not a single mom! I feel like the harder I work now, the better my family and I's life can be as we all get older! For Mindy, I'm sure that similar feeling is amplified.
