Regal Cinemas says this Thursday will be the last day of operation nationwide for all of its movie theaters. Many states have allowed theaters to re-open, however Regal says the rules New York State is applying has completely crippled the industry. In a press release, the company said:
As major U.S. markets, mainly New York, remained closed and without guidance on reopening timing, studios have been reluctant to release its pipeline of new films.
Without new films, there are no customers. Movie theaters have remained closed in New York for most of the year. Regal has several cinemas in the Capital Region - including Crossgates, Colonie Center, Clifton Park Center Mall, Rensselaer Country Plaza, and Aviation Mall.
Some cinemas had just begun to re-open in parts of the country, now they will close 'indefinitely'.
