A 21-year-old drama student was arrested after police say he stabbed two of his fellow classmates inside a dorm room at the University of Hartford. Jake Wascher stabbed his victims, who have not been identified, multiple times while reenacting a scene from the movie The Butterfly Effect. Officials have not said why Wascher decided to use a real knife while recreating the violent murder scene from the movie.
One victim, who is 19 years old, is in critical condition after being stabbed in the chest and the back. The second victim, who is 21 years old, was stabbed four times and is listed in serious condition at a local hospital.
When authorities learned of the stabbing, they locked down the campus and began searching for Wascher. A police officer found him near the school about two hours later, and he ran into the woods. He eventually surrendered to authorities and is facing charges of first-degree assault and criminal attempt to commit murder. He is being held on a one million dollar bond.
