We all know and love Ciara's love story with husband Russell Wilson... but because their love story is so sweet, sometimes it's easy to forget that before there was Russell, Ciara was engaged to and had a son with rapper Future.
Ciara just appeared on the Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith and spilled details on what happened during that time of her life, when her son, also named Future, was only 3 months old and she decided to end her engagement with his father.
Ciara revealed that she ultimately made the decision to become a single mom at that point in her life to avoid the thing she feared most, which is wasting her life.
“I grew up with my mom and dad being together. The idea of it being mommy and daddy that made baby... Also, you’re living your life in front of the world, so that adds a whole ‘nother layer. I feel like I’m failing right now, they gon’ roast me.”
Explaining why she is afraid of wasting her life, she shared:
"You realize that time does not stop and it will be the worst scenario to stay in a situation that it’s just not healthy, it’s not going to get any better. I realized that I have to start making different decisions.”
She also was able to make this big change in her life thanks to the example of love she saw in her parents. She says that she feels it was her dad's love that "saved" her because she would think about if her dad would ever treat her mom the way she was being treated.
"It would get to a point where I was like, my dad wouldn’t do this to my mom. This can’t be love... I’ve always had the same goal of wanting to be loved a certain way, but I was just walking in the wrong direction.”
The happy ending to this story? Ciara met Seattle Seahawks player Russell Wilson about 7 months after ending her previous engagement, and the couple got married in 2016, and then welcomed their daughter Sienna Princess in 2017.
“I never had that feeling in my life. It was just like, it was calm … It’s a different level of love.”
This story makes me feel so happy for her!
