The Homeless Have A New Home: Albany County Jail

The population at Albany County Jail has been dropping over the past year and Sheriff Craig Apple has a plan to use the empty space as transitional housing for those struggling with addiction, mental illness and homelessness. Sheriff Apple plans to partner with St. Peter's Hospital, The Homeless & Travelers Aid Society, CDTA, and other non-profits to get the program started. A tier of jail cells will be converted into rooms. About 25 have been made over so far, with another 25 expected.

In addition, Albany County Correctional Facility will change its name to Albany County Corrections and Rehabilitative Services Center.
